Homosexuality

A little boy playing in his bedroom yells out, "Mommy come! There's a gay cockroach!"

Worried, the mother runs to him. "A cockroach? Oh no, how unhygienic! But...wait a second, honey, how do you know it's gay? Why do you say so?"

"'Cause it came out of the closet."

Silly joke my brother recently told me. I swear I didn't laugh, but it got me thinking about homosexuality. I liked the fact that the mother first heard "cockroach", and then on second thought, notice the little adjective "gay". How wonderful would it be to live in a world where adjectives like this (with a negative connotation of course) did not matter at all or did not make any difference as to laws, human rights, life opportunities, adoption, marriage, work, or even just love! Gay or not, it was what it was: a cockroach. But what kind of life would it be without beautiful adjectives? Certain adjectives are worth using and should be given more importance...open-minded, friendly, tolerant, open, pacifist, loving.

In this comic situation, somehow I pictured her perplexed by her son's unusual "tagging" of the insect. Maybe it's her "wait a minute" that gave me this idea. It's as if she's on the brink of becoming upset by his almost prejudice against it (I like to think she's gay-friendly), almost because he's still just a child and children learn and act according to what they learn in their communities. But parents often ignore what actually happens in their communities; they forget that it's not just how they raise their children that will influence their life. Wrong, very very wrong. In Italy, this happens too often and it's becoming a very dangerous phenomenon. Teenagers are becoming bullies and when they end up in a police station, bewildered parents cannot recognize their own daughter or son. Wrong, very very wrong.

People think and say that a faggot is someone who's just not sexually matured yet! Insane. Lesbians...dikes...are just confused or they act like this just to disturb their their families or previous boyfriends. How stupid. Then children go on and use these offensive words and parents can't believe it...or worse, find it funny.

I say people who think homosexuality is a disease or some kind of distortion of what's normal and healthy use their brainless arguments as a defense mechanism. They're so insecure about their own sexuality I take pity on them. In case my argument sounds biased: I'm heterosexual, so what?
